Oktoberfest-Souvenirs 2012

For the head of the Munich economy department, Dieter Reiter, it was a premiere: As heir to the era-defining Gabriele Weishäupl as head of the Oktoberfest, it was the first time that he had the honor of presenting the official souvenirs of this year’s Oktoberfest in the Munich City Museum. Doing a great job, he couldn’t help but smile, when the instructions on his notepad read: "Present pacifier now!"

Actually, there really is a pacifier, with the traditional Bavarian rhombus pattern, among the many new Oktoberfest souvenirs. For slightly more grown-up fans of the Oktoberfest there are cups and glasses and mugs, shirt and pullovers, necklaces and the ever so popular snow-globes.

The official souvenirs show this year’s Oktoberfest poster design, the "Münchner Kindl" – a kid in a monks’ robe – juggling a pretzel, horseradish, beer, a rose and a heart.
The official Oktoberfest poster design was created by Björn Maier, who won the annual competition for that honor, hosted by the city of Munich. Apart from gracing the official souvenirs, the winning design is printed on 10.000 posters and 100.000 German-, English- and Italian-language brochures.
